Garmology is back! Today I’m visited by Max Leonard and Henry Iddon, creators of the book “Mountain Style – British Outdoor Clothing 1953-2000”. We have a good old natter about the great British outdoors, expeditions of yore, how creativity led to development, new fabrics for new times and much much more. You can find the book at Isola press or at most other booksellers of merit.

Hello, I bought the book on the strength of this podcast interview. It arrived a few days ago, and it’s fabulous! I read almost half of it in one sitting. Thanks so much.
As above I thought this was a fascinating listen, so engaging from two guys who really know their subject. The longer length allows a more in depth discussion, would happy listen to hours of this stuff. Off to buy the book. Thanks
I should have added I remember the exact time I saw someone in a Berghaus jacket. He was in the I think J and D sports shop near Newcastle Haymarket, wearing a Berghaus Blue outer/Red Inner Pole jacket, green/white striped shirt, Tacchini tracksuit bottoms and Adidas ZX 600. All well out of my price range. This was late 1985.
Later in the 90s I bought a very old Berghaus jacket from the Oxfam near there that had the original logo/Dean Street address for under <£10, similar one online recently for c£300. Mind boggling.
